COMPACT (REVACT)

COMPACT (REVACT) is a software developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) in consultation with the Office of Principal Chief Controller of Accounts ( O/o Pr.CCA), Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) for Revenue Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs) of CBEC for bringing efficiency and accuracy in their functioning.  The COMPACT (REVACT) software is at the lowest level/front end of Accounting and it provides information to higher levels of accounting systems for further processing.   COMPACT (REVACT) package has been implemented in all the PAOs of CBEC with effect from 1.4.2009.

The Central Board of Excise and Customs under the department of Revenue of the Ministry of Finance, administers indirect taxes through the Central Excise, Service Tax and Customs Commissionerates.   This software is basically meant for receipt accounting in all the PAOs and two e-PAO Offices (one at Chennai for Central Excise and the other at Mumbai for Service Tax). Electronic challan data is incorporated and data entry is done from physical challans and physical scrolls (on a maker-checker) to ensure more accuracy in the data entry.  The data generated is verified by the Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) and Pay and Accounts Officer (PAO) separately.  On acceptance of challans by the AAO and PAO the data is uploaded for automatic accounting by the system.
